Woodsman Orphan - A New Era
Woodsman Orphan has joined forces with Ghost of Chance, VVVRS, and Deluxe. Stay tuned for some amazing music!
Bio:
Bio:
Woodsman Orphan is a freak-folk and post-psych collaborative
with the uncanny ability to call together the visceral and the psychical muses
into one unearthly choir. Press play and one is instantly stirred up by catchy
pop hooks, psychedelic guitars, and acoustic rambling of disjointed folk mind
dump. The group's distinctive style is
characterized by subtle time signature changes and sonically open
experimentation set to surrealist lyrics. But the discerning listener soon finds that
the pop elements mingle with a mysterious and protean ethic involving strategic
elements of surprise, dissonance and harmonization. In the spirit of influences
like the Beach Boys, 13th Floor Elevators, John Cale, and Neil
Young, Woodsman Orphan is concerned with leaving the listeners in a different
place from where they start.

Please welcome Brundlefly and The Swede
We are excited to announce a new member to the OMR family, Brundlefly the The Swede. They come from CT--but are now based in New Jersey. They just released "Cabin Music," a beautiful instrumental record in the vein of Jim O'Rourk. In the next month or so, we'll be releasing an extended version of the record. So watch out! It's going to be great.
This is what Pitchfork.com said about "Cabin Music"

A little about them:
The Brundlefly & the Swede is the haphazardly chosen moniker of Jason Socci and Matthew Kohnle, both alumni of long defunct Connecticut instrumental band DAYBED. The two had not played together in any form, since initially disbanding DAYBED in early 2000.
DAYBED trafficked in the kind of “Post-Rock” that saw popularity in the 1990’s, akin to, but unique in its own right, to output of such labels as Thrill Jockey, Drag City and Kranky. While “Cabin Music” finds the duo plumbing similar territory (instrumental music, progressive arrangements, employing double drums kits, and an emphasis on “studio as instrument” style production), it’s not a record that concerns itself with nostalgia. In many ways, it’s an idealized summation of DAYBED’s work, and the current state of mind of it’s creators.
In the nineties, while Jason and Matthew were working with the quartet that was DAYBED, they would often perform together independent of the group in a duo format. Often infiltrating open mic nights, the band would cleverly separate into small units and “crash” an evening of singer-songwriters and blues-addled lawyers by providing often jarringly contrasting music to the otherwise standard fare most commonly seen in coffee houses on random Tuesday nights.
Brundlefly & the Swede would counter their bandmates often electronic, synthesized drone or experimental loop performances by performing their unique blend of acoustic guitar arrangements, more akin to the work of John Fahey or Gastr del Sol’s David Grubbs and Jim O’Rourke.
“...We were both getting into that pseudo-fingerpicking-bluegrassy-folk-country style we heard O’rourke and Grubbs doing. I don’t think that would have fit with Daybed’s aesthetic and would require quite an over haul of the group. BF&S was perfect for Matt and I to develop a new way of playing, unlike anything we’d done in the past.” -Jason Socci
“It’s impossible to overstate the influence a band like Gastr del Sol had on us at the time. While Daybed was a band that would focus it’s energies on the more electric and electronic, Brundlefly & the Swede would take things in an organic direction, but with the same angle of exploration and experimentation... The album “Camoufleur” (DRAG CITY, 1997) kind of sparked our imagination, helping us realize that you didn’t have to simply rely on strumming folk songs with the acoustic- you could challenge and experiment as well, and subvert expectations of your audience who might be comfortable at first seeing two dudes with acoustic guitars setting up, as opposed to watching a furrowed browed character plugging in ominous old synths and tape echos...” -Matthew Kohnle

Please welcome Spectral Fangs!
Obscure Me Records is proud to announce that Spectral Fangs will be joining the OMR Family! Spectral Fangs is a Danbury, CT based four-piece band comprised of Joe Russo (guitars, vocals), Tony Mascolo (bass, vocals), Jared Thompson (drums) and Danielle Capalbo (guitars, vocals). Spectral Fangs wash over you with waves of reverb, floating tight melodies, high above a coalescence of ’60s soul, ’70s punk, irreverent ’90s rock and indie pop. The result is an idiosyncratic and infectious canvas of sound grounded in Joe’s vocal ache and elevated by Tony’s soaring harmonies.
Spectral Fangs’ influences range from The Shins and Belle and Sebastian to Elvis Costello, Dinosaur Jr., The dBs and The Pixies. This reflects only a sliver of the vast music catalogue galvanizing the band—and the many projects that each Fang has embarked upon since they were teenagers growing up in the Tri-State Area.

Please welcome The Guru!
We are proud to welcome The Guru to the Obscure Me Record's family. The Guru is a four piece band from Watertown, Connecticut. They cut their teeth in small shows for handfuls of friends in the back of a main street coffee house. Soon they streamlined their psychedelic-influenced songs into songs with more focused melodies, slicker guitar parts, and dance-influenced conversations between the bass and drums. They grew comfortable playing shows after a summer of playing every show they could get booked on in New England. Along the way they developed a dedicated fan base that shows up to every show, to exchange energy, dance, and sing
